Which Kettle Cooked BBQ chip is best?
The Kettle Cooked BBQ chip taste test is a bit different than our other taste tests in a major way. It happened outside, because we were on a camping trip with this amazing view:
Our camping trip had about 10 families, so there was a lot of people to rank the chips. The normal technique of writing down your thoughts and ranking all of the BBQ chips just wasn’t going to work. (wind was the greatest concern) As a result, we decided to limit to only 4 brands of kettle cooked BBQ chips and ask for everyone’s top chip.
This is a little different than other taste tests. To see how we normally run a taste test, click here.
We put Kettle Cooked Barbeque potato chips in identical bags, labeled A – D, and simply had people tell us which one was their favorite. The chips were put out as an appetizer to dinner and panelists told Jill their favorite, which she kept a tally via a list on her phone.
An interesting pattern emerged in the fact that the children all preferred C, which was Safeway. And surprisingly it wasn’t because they all tasted at the same time (which they did not) and wanted to be like their friends; but more likely because it had more sugar and/or was more orange.
However, the adults overwhelmingly preferred brand B. It wasn’t even close. Out of about 30 – 40 people, 70% of the responses were B.
The BBQ chip taste test winner is…
Taste-testers said this chip was a perfect thickness (not too thin or too thick) and it had a very nice flavor – not too strong, and not too unnatural.
The other brands in the showdown were:
Lay’s Kettle Cooked
Kettle Brand – BackYard Barbeque
Safeway Signature Select – BBQ (kid favorite)
What is your favorite potato chip brand? What about your favorite flavor? We taste tested regular potato chips and had EIGHT brands in the running!
